The Green Mile

This, friends, is the green mile.

If you could zoom into the picture you would see that very very far away is a black cistern that holds the water for the community garden. I am standing where my plot resides. It is far as hell.

So navigating this new garden plot has been a challenge. As a community garden newbie I have a lot to learn. The whole idea of precious water in the garden is very stressful. On Saturday I waited 30 minutes for an empty hose connection only to be met with the stare of a thousand deaths while I filled up my buckets. On my long trip back with two full buckets of water, my wheelbarrow tipped over.

I felt like crying, but I’m a G.

Later in the week, I came to water my newly planted seed babies, only to be met with the news that all three cisterns were empty. Each takes two hours to fill and I needed to get my kids to bed on time.

I have a rain barrel that I brought from home but the Lordt hasn’t blessed us with nary a drop of rain.

My true nature contemplated bringing in a donkey to carry water and calling him Mr. Jingles but I felt it might not be well received.

So I did the next best thing….I brought my boys. I told them that if anyone asked, the oldest would be Mr. and the youngest Jingles.

At least this would spark conversation.

Either way, I headed over to Giant and purchased four 2.5 gallon fridge waters for $3.09 each. The handles were easy for the boys and I to carry. We easily filled it up again and again.

It took us a few trips but our calves are stronger for it.

I’m lying…I can barely walk and my Megan knees are now unattainable.

Hot girl summer done before it even began.

We were able to fill up our makeshift water barrel and water our newly planted seedlings. I’ll call that a win.

I’m still not against the idea of chanting “Dead man walking” for dramatic effect. We’ll see.

Harvesting lessons already. Look at me :)

Until Next Time.
